I am unsure where to post this content. On one hand, it’s all about food. On the other hand we are traveling. GhostsThatSellMemories concerns all things related to our travels while aBatteredOldSuitcase focuses on my baking and confectionery hobby.
Dan and Frances recommended Monico’s Taqueria located at 4-733 Kuhio Hwy, Kapaʻa, HI. Dan claimed Kathleen (owner and bartender) makes the best margaritas on the island and Frances states Monico’s has the best restaurant Mexican food she has ever had. An added benefit is all the staff were outstanding but a special shout out to Kathleen. What a beautiful person.
Without question the margaritas (one house, one lilikoi) were the best I can ever remember. Sadly, Monico’s is not within walking distance. Next visit via Uber! I had enchiladas, served with guacamole, beans and rice and QC had quesadillas. Our plates were clean at the end of the meal. Dan and Frances hit their recommendation out of the park! Thank you so much!!
This morning (Wednesday) I picked up a variety of malasadas at the Kauai Bakery and Coffee located at 3-2600 Kaumualii Hwy, Suite 1526, Lihue, HI. They were so fresh at 6:15am I waited while they filled or coated my half dozen. While the filled (vanilla and chocolate) were delicious there is something about the original sugar or cinnamon coated malasadas that sets them above the others.
Typical of almost every encounter with a person or business the feeling of Ohana is everywhere. It’s as if you have know all these strangers all your life. As the song says, “What the world needs now… is Ohana.. not just for some, but for everyone.”
